Breaking the Silence on Cervical Cancer

Breaking the Silence on Cervical Cancer

By Alice W. | Advocacy & Awareness

In my community, women rarely talk about cervical cancer. Many fear the stigma of being diagnosed, and some believe myths that keep them away from screening. I was one of them—until I got my diagnosis. At first, I kept it a secret. But the more I went through treatment, the more I realized that silence was dangerous. Too many women were dying because they were too afraid to get tested.I started speaking at women’s groups, churches, and community events. I shared my journey, my fears, and the hope that came with early detection. Slowly, women began opening up. Some went for their first screening after hearing my story. If my courage saves even one life, then my pain has found a purpose. I believe we must break the silence together.
