The Day I Heard the Word “Cancer”
By Fatma H. | Diagnosis Journey
I’ll never forget the day the doctor said, “You have ovarian cancer.” It felt like the ground disappeared beneath me. My first thought was, Why me? Then came fear for my children—who would take care of them if I didn’t survive? The weeks that followed were a blur of scans, tests, and discussions about surgery and chemotherapy. I felt like I was drowning in information I couldn’t process. But slowly, with the help of my doctor and friends, I began to understand my options. The diagnosis was devastating, but it was also the beginning of my fight. I learned that knowledge is power. The more I understood about my illness, the less it controlled me.To anyone newly diagnosed: allow yourself to grieve, but also give yourself permission to hope.
